Leena's Birth Story

Friday June 27, 2014 I got up and took Chase to work.  Henry & I came home and laid back down for a couple minutes before getting up for the day.  I had a NST (non stress test) at the Hospital at 9:30.  I had fallen asleep for more than my couple minutes. I woke up in a hurried panic.  I jumped in the shower, quickly got henry and myself ready and ran out the door.

*I usually like to have my hospital bag packed and ready to go just in case.  I also like the kitchen clean, and my bed made.  None of that happened due to oversleeping.*  I figured I would just come home and clean after my appointment.  

I dropped Henry off and booked it to the hospital.  I had my fluid checked- had an abundance as usual. Then I was hooked up to the monitors and got on my phone to check instagram and facebook to pass the time.  After about 30 minutes or so the nurse came in and said, "oh no baby, that's not what we want to see." (I just assumed Leena was sleeping and not have accelerations like they want)  

When the perinatologist came in, I knew it was more serious than that. Leena's heart was decelerating when they wanted it to accelerate.  I was told there were two options.

Option 1- Run blood tests & another 24 hour urine test. 

Option 2- Deliver the sweet babe.

Before I had time to call Chase and let him know of the options, they told me I would be induced. Due to the lack of beds in L&D I had an hour to run and get Chase, and grab my bag.  Thank goodness for having family so close that could take Henry for a few days!  

Chase and I ran home and packed the bag for the hospital, and also a bag for Henry.  We then ran to Harmons and got Henry a bunch of milk, food, and snacks.  We dropped it off at my parents and headed to the hospital. 

We got all checked in and situated around 12.  Nurse came in and hooked me up to the monitors and started my IV.  I was positive for Group B Strep, so they started antibiotics.  My Dr. was in Manti at a wedding and would be back up later that day.  For that reason we waited to start pitiocin until 4pm.   Once Pitiocin was started, my contractions started to get more regular.  I was dialted to a 3 and about 70% effaced.  I got my epidural around 6pm.  (I wasn't in pain yet.  I figure if I am paying for the epi that I will use it to it's full advantage of not feeling any pain!)  

My contraction monitor wasn't picking up my contractions, so they switched to a internal monitor.  Even then, it wasn't picking them up.  Leena was in distress, so I was moved to my left side with oxygen.  At 8 I was still a 3 and Leena wasn't looking great.  We then checked around 10pm and I was at a 7 and 100% effaced.  They called my Dr. and got my ready to push.  My Dr. came in and a Resident.  I was at a 9.  As soon as my legs were put up in stirrups the fire alarm at the hospital went off.  Apparently the "Placenta Fridge" was plugged into an electrical strip and started a fire. Big excitement!  I was then at a 10 and ready to push!  3 contractions later Leena was out.  Her head was turned and as soon as she straightened it, she slipped right out.  I let the Resident deliver her and he did GREAT! 

When Leena came out, I couldn't believe how SMALL she was!  I was expecting a 8-9lb baby and just by looking at her, I knew she wasn't anywhere near that big.  I also noticed her beautiful long fingers and long feet.  She was perfect.  We had her at 10:47pm.  She was 6lbs 15 oz.  19 inches long. 

While I was being sewn up, we all admired this tiny babe.  I got skin to skin with her for the longest time and was able to feed her.  Leena is an AWESOME eater.  She latched right on and actually ate.  (Henry was AWFUL at nursing)  Leena and Chase went down to the nursery around 1am.  I was then wheeled down to mother/baby around 1:30am.  

We got Leena all settled in the nursery and me all settled in my room.  Chase went home to sleep and came back in the morning.  Everything was so peaceful and perfect!  

Leena couldn't be any more perfect and Henry couldn't be more of a cute big brother!  We are SO in love with our little kiddos! 

Henry's Birthday Week!

Henry turns 1 on Saturday.  Where did my baby go?
He looks like a toddler, acts like a toddler, and is growing up so so fast!

We put together a little video for his first year.  It is bittersweet how fast time goes.  I feel like I just had him, and now he's so independent.

Big Hank & Baby Leena updates

Big Hank is almost 1!!
Oh my GOSH!  I cannot believe it,  where has the past year gone?
New things with Henry-
LOVES oranges & anything real people food.  He definitely knows when we are eating something and he doesn't like when he is stuck with mashed up baby food, and we have chicken, potatoes, and veggies.
He LOVES balls!  He is great at playing catch and bouncing them.

Still not crawling or walking... I honestly don't think he will crawl.  He has mastered rolling from A to B.  His balance is fantastic however, so when he decides he wants to walk, he will be cruising.

He love the outdoors!  We have really been spoiled with this great weather.  He plays with his toys on the grass and sometimes takes his nap in the sun.


Baby Leena is just about 25 weeks!  This pregnancy has flown by.  I know it's because I am busy with Henry, and it's been lovely.  With Leena I crave RED meat.  (I maybe eat a bite of steak once a year, if that)  Leena wants steak ALL the time.  It is bizarre.

My only complaint about this pregnancy.... is PUPPS.  It is a very itchy skin rash that only goes away AFTER you have delivered.  There is nothing you can do until then.  I am up every hour making myself not itch.  It is awful!  Mind over Matter though right?  If any of you have remedies, let me know!

Leena is much smaller than Henry, which is quite a relief... we will see if she stays that way.  She is measuring right on schedule if not a tad behind.  Henry measured 2-3 weeks from the get go.  I haven't gotten nearly as big this time around either (fingers crossed)  It has just been easier.

Leena loves hearing Henry talk and laugh.  Henry isn't sure what to think when she kicks his hand. They are going to be best buds!

We can't wait for this semester to be over so we can have Chase to ourselves after work for a few weeks before summer starts up! We are SO blessed to have him as a Husband and Father.  He works so hard to provide for our growing little family.

It's a Girl!

We couldn't be more excited that Henry is getting a little SISTER in July.  Let's be honest, we would've been thrilled if it were a boy too.

Chase and I are having the hardest time thinking of a name for this sweet little girl though.  A bunch on our list-

I never knew Chase would have such an opinion when picking baby names.  We got lucky with Henry because we both loved it... naming this little girl will be a lot harder!

Henry update-  He is almost 10.5 months old!  He is growing so fast and looks like he is the size of a 2 year old!  

He is wearing 18 months- 2T Clothing!! 

I swear he grows an inch a week, and the more pregnant I become, the heavier he feels!

He still is not crawling.... He is rolling, and scooting backwards, but he can't figure out how to crawl.

It is so frustrating for him, because we know he wants to be moving so so bad, but he just can't figure it out.  He will, hopefully sooner rather than later!

We love him so so much, and feel so blessed that he's ours!

Little Things

I have clearly been the worst blogger out there.  How hard is it to get on once a month and document recent happenings... super hard I guess.

Henry is almost 10 months old.... WHAT??
He weighs 22 lbs and is 32 inches long!! big BOY!

He is so much fun, and seriously has me laughing with his personality.

He has yet to crawl, he tries and can't figure out how to bring his knees under himself... so instead it looks like he is practicing for the olympics swimming.

He LOVES his walker and his bouncer.

He naps great and is sleeping in his crib really great! (at 7 months he decided he hated his crib, I couldn't take the fight every night so for the past 2 months he has slept in our bed :/)

Crib training is probably the hardest thing I have done as a mom.  Listening to him cry it out that first night about killed me.  He now only cries about 5 minutes and then he's out!

He has gotten sick twice in the past few months.  He has a nasty cold right now and I think he's starting a double ear infection.  He is constantly tugging at his ears. :(

I must say that I become more grateful and more humbled by him daily.  Especially when I am up all night holding him so he can sleep.  It's in the quiet times that I feel so blessed to be his mom.  That I get to be the one rocking him to sleep.  Waking up to his bright smiling face and giggles gets me every time too.

Baby #2 and Henry already play.  Henry will push on my belly, and Baby 2 will kick back.  It's quite comical.

We find out what we are having on valentines day!  We are so excited.  We honestly are happy either way.  I have felt that it's a boy since day 1, but I am so excited to see!  I told Chase I would like a boy 51% and a girl 49%.  haha I think a boy would be great for Henry with them being 14 months apart, but then again... I know a girl would be just as great.  So honestly we will be so happy either way!!

Chase and I have been busy busy.  Chase works full time and then does night school full time.  I just quit working at Nexus... It was bittersweet.  I had been there 2 years and have really enjoyed working there.  I need to be home with Henry during the days though!
